Research and Community Impact

Our goal is to launch students into the world with robust and meaningful knowledge about English. One way that we do that is by our active participation in research and by being involved in our communities—both on and off campus.

We touch the life of every Ball State student through our Writing Program. Since 1966, we’ve been helping students write better with one-to-one peer tutoring, writing reference materials, and presentations through our Writing Center.

We are instrumental in Indiana’s teaching community through the Indiana Writing Project, an organization, based at Ball State University, committed to promoting the best possible writing instruction in Indiana’s elementary, secondary, and postsecondary schools. The project has been recognized by the Indiana state legislature for work in helping teachers improve student performance in writing.

Working collaboratively with faculty and organizations, our students are in communities helping people in amazing settings find new ways to better communicate and understand.

Our large and diverse Department of English faculty is active in research, publications, and production on many fronts. Their work enriches the classroom experience and provides impactful and unforgettable immersive learning.
