Scholarship Criteria and Application for FCS Majors

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences scholarships are described below for the academic year to departmental majors who qualify.

General criteria: (All items are considered individually and weighted accordingly for final selection) 

  1. Major in Department of Family and Consumer Sciences OR Dietetics
  2. Minimum of 3.0 GPA, except for the Burgess Scholarship (2.0 GPA) 
  3. Minimum of 12 hour course load each semester
  4. Financial need 
  5. Activities and leadership
  6. Essay 

Application Process: 

  • All Free Federal Student Financial Aid (FAFSA) forms must be completed by the University deadline. FAFSA forms, along with the exact due date and information on completing them, are available in the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office, Lucina Hall 245, (765) 285-5600 or on the web. Financial Need is determined by FAFSA
  • The attached Scholarship Application for FCS Majors (PDF) must be word processed or typed. A completed form for each scholarship you are applying for must be received at the FCS front desk by 4:00 pm on March 1st. If mailing, send to:

  • You must file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and return to the FCS Department the FAFSA letter (hard copy) that states your expected family contribution (EFC) in order to be considered for any scholarships.
  • Scholarship awards will be announced during the Spring FCS department recognition program.
  • Note: You must remain in the department in order to retain your scholarship

Scholarships and monies available:

  • EA and EE BURGESS SCHOLARSHIP: Open to students who will be freshmen, sophomores, juniors, or seniors at the beginning of the school year. Students must be graduates of either, Muncie Central HS or Connersville HS, and pursuing Hospitality and Food Management, Dietetics, Dietetic Technology or Vocational FCS Education. Minimum GPA of 2.0 (preferably 2.0 - 3.4 range). Amount varies year to year; generally $600. Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the information on your FAFSA.
  • AUDREY T. DILLON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: Open to students who will be juniors or seniors at the beginning of the school year. Amount varies year to year; generally $200-500. Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the information on your FAFSA.
  • MILDRED JOHNSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: Open to students who will be sophomores, juniors, or seniors at the beginning of the school year. Amount varies year to year; generally $300-600. Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the information on your FAFSA.
  • HELEN J. SNYDER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS: Open to students who will be freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors at the beginning of the school year. Preference will be given to HOSPITALITY AND FOOD MANAGEMENT and DIETETICS majors with a financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Amount varies year to year; generally multiple awards $200-700.
  • JOYCE RASDALL SCHOLARSHIPS: Open to students who will be freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors at the beginning of the school year. Preference will be given to Family and Consumer Sciences Interior Design majors. Amount varies from year to year.
  • WARNER FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES SCHOLARSHIPS: Open to freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors at the beginning of the school year. Amount varies year to year; generally multiple awards $300-600. 
  • RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY MANAGEMENT (RPM) SCHOLARSHIPS
    Each spring students majoring in Residential Property Management (RPM) have the opportunity to apply for a variety of scholarships for the following academic year. The overall purpose of the scholarship program is to retain and reward outstanding students in the Residential Property Management program at Ball State University. Members of the Residential Property Management Advisory Board have made an initial contribution of $5000.00 and/or contribute annually to fund these scholarships. The scholarship program was established with the founding of the program in the spring of 1999.
