Profile 
With an eclectic interest in human geography, Dr. Airriess’ research interests include Pacific Rim port economies, development in East and Southeast Asia, the ethnic geographies of North America, and the cultural landscape. Chris has been the recipient of two Fulbright grants, one to Indonesia in 1989, and the other to Hong Kong in 1999. Dr. Airriess' most frequently taught class is the Geography of the Cultural Environment (GEOG 121) that introduces students to an appreciation of the cultural complexities of folk and popular cultures, religion, language, ethnicity, food habits and globalization. Dr. Airriess earned his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky in 1989.
