Chairperson of the Department of Geography
Kevin Turcotte is the chairperson for the Department of Geography. He has been at Ball State since 1987. His research interests and specialities are in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Since 1999 he has received grants totaling more than $400,000 from the Indiana State Department of Health for projects involving a cancer registry age-adjusted rate calculator, a neighborhood rate calculator for vital records, and a set of tools for the lead screening program. He has also received $1,000,000 in outside funding since 1994. He also created a Window's GIS application of the Lanier-Shrewsbury neighborhood in Madison, Indiana for the Division of State Museum and Historical Sites, Indiana Department of Natural Resources. He has served as chair of the department's undergraduate curriculum and promotion and tenure committees, and is involved in the Building Better Communities initiative. He is also the vice-chair of the Indiana Cancer Consortium Data Committee. He earned his PhD from Indiana State University.
