To be admitted to our
doctor of philosophy (PhD) counseling psychology program, you’ll need to satisfy the
requirements of the Graduate School as well as meet the
department’s criteria.
You must have a master’s degree in counseling, counseling and guidance, psychology, educational or school psychology, clinical psychology, social work, or a related subject or a bachelor’s degree.
If you already have a master’s degree, you’ll also need
- combined scores of at least 1,000 in the verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
- an undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.2
- completion of four graduate courses in counseling or counseling psychology
- three letters of recommendation
If you have a bachelor’s degree, you’ll need:
- an undergraduate GPA of 3.2
- combined verbal and quantitative score on the GRE of at least 1,100
- completion of at least 15 semester hours or 24 quarter hours of undergraduate psychology classes with a GPA of 3.2
- three letters of recommendation
- counseling or volunteer experience
- research experience
- interest or experience with multicultural issues
Applications must be postmarked by December 15.
