Whether you seek to perfect your reporting and editing skills or simply enhance your understanding of journalism theory, a master of arts in journalism can help you achieve your goals.

Our nationally ranked program covers a wide range of relevant topics, and you can put what you learn into practice on many campus-based publications including The Ball State Daily News, our online multimedia publication called Ball Bearings, and our campus magazine, Expo. You can choose to focus on business journalism or literary journalism. (This department also offers a master's degree in public relations.)

If you want to combine your studies in journalism with specialized learning in information management and technology, you can enroll in a joint program with the Center for Information and Communication Sciences.

You’ll learn from seasoned professionals, and you’ll be able to take advantage of a variety of labs, including an advanced media lab where you can get hands-on experience in media convergence and an applied research lab where you can participate in a many projects using a variety of methodologies. 

Apply today to the Graduate School and the Department of Journalism in the College of Communication, Information, and Media. Learn how to defray tuition costs by becoming a graduate assistant and check out other options to pay for grad school. The department awards a Graduate Student Scholarship of $500 annually to a returning graduate student in journalism or public relations. Contact the department for details.
