Mathematics

When you pursue a master’s degree in mathematics you can take full advantage of Ball State’s small class sizes, specialized faculty, and program flexibility that allows you focus on an area of math that most interests you.

You can earn a master of arts (MA) or master of science (MS). The MA requires you to take a 3-hour research methods course; the MS requires a 6-hour thesis. With both degrees, you’ll expand your expertise in analysis, algebra, and one area of your choice. Our graduates teach, take technical positions in business, industry or government, or even pursue doctoral programs.

The math department also offers master's degrees in actuarial science, statistics, and mathematical education.
