Apply to Grad School

The procedure for applying to the Graduate School is described below. All applicants must apply to the Graduate School as well as the department to which they are applying. This information below explains how to do so.

Departments may have their own admission requirements and/or a separate application. Our site has an information page about each program. On these pages you will find admission requirements for the program, the name of the program advisor, her or his contact information, and the url for the departmental Webpage. Instructions for the Graduate School Application
All application materials---including a completed application form, application fee, and official transcripts---must be submitted to the Graduate School at least four weeks before the term in which you plan to begin graduate study.

  1. Contact the specific graduate program in which are you are interested for specific program deadlines and prerequisites. (Some departments require the submission of a departmental application in addition to the Graduate School application. Also, departments may have earlier deadlines and may require additional supporting credentials for admission.)
  2. Complete the online Graduate School application for admission to graduate study, submit the form, with application fee and transcript, to the Graduate School at least four weeks before the term in which you wish to begin graduate study.

Application Fee of $60 is nonrefundable.
* Applications will not be processed until the application fee is received. 

First time applicants to Ball State must request one official transcript from the institution that granted your baccalaureate degree and each institution attended for undergraduate and graduate work. Request the Registrar at each institution to send transcripts to the Graduate School, Ball State University, Muncie IN 47306. (It is not necessary to request Ball State transcripts or transcripts of work taken anywhere before any Ball State degree.)

An official transcript is one that has been sent directly from the issuing institution to the Graduate School at Ball State University. It must bear the college seal, date, and an appropriate signature. The Graduate School will accept a transcript sent to a student as official if it is still in an unopened sealed envelope. Transcripts that do not meet these requirements will not be considered official. All transcripts become the property of Ball State University.

No action on admission will be taken until transcripts, application fee and completed admission form are on file with the Graduate School.
