Welcoming Session This session will discuss the transition to graduate school, success strategies for a positive graduate school experience, and will include a panel of current students sharing valuable resources. Doctoral students will be let out early for their "Doctoral Student Session".

Break-Out Sessions Students may attend two sessions: Billing and Registration Representatives from the Bursars and Registars office will provide a brief explanation and be on-site to answer your billing and registration questions.

Location: Miller College of Business, WB Room 144 Discovering Muncie A current Doctoral Student and Graduate Assistant will share her story of discovering Muncie’s shopping, downtown venues, and family friendly events.

Location: Miller College of Business, WB Room 139 Grantseeking: How Do I Find Funding for my Research, Scholarship, Creative Work, or Pizza Party? We're just kidding about the pizza party, but we're very serious about helping you identify grants to support your project ideas. Staff from Ball State's Sponsored Programs Office will offer information on identifying funding opportunities from agencies, foundations, and also from Ball State University.

Location: Miller College of Business, WB Room 138 Research with Human Subjects Many graduate students will find themselves utilizing human subjects through the course of their master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation. Staff from Ball State’s Office of Research Integrity will be available to introduce common ethical dilemma’s and regulatory challenges graduate students find themselves in through the course of their research, what the Institutional Review Board is, and what you need to know before you even begin your research at Ball State University.

Location: Miller College of Business, WB Room 136 Selecting and Working with a Mentor A mentor can have a profound impact in preparing you for your future career. Many times you must seek out a mentor. Advisor and mentors are not synonymous yet mentors provide professional socialization and personal support. Many graduate students do not receive as much mentoring as they like for a number of reasons. This break out session will discuss a description of mentoring, strategies to find a mentor, your responsibilities as a mentee and specific issues for underrepresented students.

Location: Miller College of Business, WB Room 141 The Next Step: Graduate Research at the Ball State University Libraries Attend this break-out session to learn about services and resources as a new graduate student. Topics to be covered include searching library resources like CardCat and research databases, library services for graduate students, upcoming workshops, and more! Bring your questions and join us for this informative session. Feel free to bring a laptop or iPad.
