Biography
Professor Swope's research focuses on the military and diplomatic history of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) in China. His publications include A Dragon's Head & A Serpent's Tail: Ming China and the First Great East Asian War, 1592-1598, and Warfare in China Since 1600 in addition to numerous scholarly articles and book chapters. He is currently working on a book entitled The Mlitary Collapse of China's Ming Dynasty, 1619-1644, which is scheduled for publication in 2012. Professor Swope also serves on the Board of Directors for the Chinese Military History Society and as the Book Review Editor for The Journal of Chinese Military History. Dr. Swope teaches courses in Asian and world history at Ball State and also serves as the Director of Graduate Studies in the History department.
