As the largest undergraduate advertising program in Indiana, and one of the largest in the Midwest, Ball State's advertising program offers a high quality ad education in a small-class, personalized way. Our mission is to prepare students to be advertising professionals. You'll be prepared to enter the competitive world of advertising with all of the skills, knowledge, and confidence that you'll need to land a job, make immediate contributions, and grow within the profession.
You'll find rich opportunities for hands-on experience throughout the ad program. You’ll take 15 advertising, creative, media and marketing courses that will equip you for advanced and specialized advertising options. Elective courses allow you to customize your learning experience and develop the specific skills needed for your chosen career path—whether it’s creative, media, account management, or consumer research.
As anyone who watches TV commercials or walks down a grocery aisle knows, advertising is an idea business. It’s more than just print or broadcast advertising—it’s product development, branding, packaging, promotion, online design, social media and mobile advertising. It can involve copywriting, art direction, graphic design, media planning and buying, strategy, research, and ad production.
Above all, careers in advertising are about creativity. Having the confidence to generate ideas and the knowledge to make them happen. It's not surprising then that preparing for an advertising career involves much more than just reading textbooks. At Ball State, it means working in teams on real-world projects with real-life clients. And you can branch outside of the classroom to become a hands-on member of the award-winning student-led AAF advertising group or work with Cardinal Communications a student advertising and PR agency.
