If you dream about a career in news and want to graduate from college ready to jump into the newsroom, our news editorial sequence is for you. The diverse range of course work in this sequence gives you knowledge and experience in storytelling, newsgathering and analysis, conducting interviews, writing, and developing news judgment that you will be able to employ with traditional and emerging media, including the Web and broadcast.
You will learn how to sift through electronic databases, government publications, public records, and Internet sources to do research and to edit for grammar, content, style, and legal considerations. And you will get insight into subject matter ranging from media law to ethics.
Our department also links you with countless opportunities outside the classroom--most prominent is the award-winning The Ball State Daily News, which provides a wealth of pregraduation experiences. Also, media professionals visit throughout the semester with insight and guidance about the field, and you will get to practice what you've learned in the real world by completing at least one internship.
