Experience in Research

Writing may be the cornerstone of journalism, public relations, and advertising, but research is the solid foundation. We make sure that our students graduate well-versed and highly experienced in the skills required for sophisticated research.

Undergraduate department majors take an information-gathering course that teaches methods for applied research. Additional course work places a strong emphasis on research, allowing you to develop specific skill sets that will serve you in the field you plan to pursue.

The senior-level capstone experience will give you an additional opportunity to demonstrate the research skills you have developed. This, too, is tailored to your major — for example, advertising students may develop an advertising campaign, demonstrating both creativity and knowledge of market-research techniques.

At the graduate level, all of our students are expected to complete either a research paper or thesis. This project follows two graduate-level, research-development courses.
