Frequently Asked Questions

What are the qualifications for admission?
Your previous academic record, scores on the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT), potential leadership qualities, and other information will be reviewed. The two primary criteria are your cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) and GMAT scores.  GMAT scores that are current (within the last six years) will be accepted toward application. Learn more about GMAT.

Is my undergraduate record important?
Your educational and professional backgrounds are important considerations in the admission process. Your cumulative grade point average (GPA) from all institutions, your area(s) of concentration, and the trend of your grades are considered. Recently, the students beginning our program had an average GPA of 3.21, with a range from 2.5 to 4.0.

What is the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)?
The GMAT is sponsored and directed by the Graduate Management Admission Council. The GMAT measures general verbal, mathematical, and analytical writing skills developed over a long period of time and are associated with success in the first year of study at graduate schools of management. You don’t need any specific knowledge of business or of other specific content areas, and the test does not measure achievement in any particular subject area. Learn more about GMAT.

You should strive to achieve a good balance of verbal and quantitative scores. Recently, students admitted to our program had an average composite GMAT score of 550, with a range from 400 to 750. The average analytical writing assessment score for admitted students has been 4.0, with a range from 3.0 to 6.0.

Are there special admission requirements for international students?
Yes. International applicants should seek admission through the Rinker Center for International Programs and complete the Ball State University Foreign Application for Admission form and forward all other required documents as stated in the instructions. Admission deadlines for international applicants are listed below.

Contact the Rinker Center by calling 765-285-5422 to verify admission deadlines and requirements. International applicants must meet the same standards as other students, and students whose native language is not English must submit a minimum score of 550 (paper-based exam) or 213 (computer-based exam) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Are services available for students with disabilities?

How do I apply for admission?
You can find instructions, application forms, and an application procedure checklist when you visit the MBA admissions page. Admission is valid for 24 months. Any student failing to take a course at Ball State within this time frame must reapply to the program and meet all admission requirements in effect at that time.

If I am admitted, what happens next?
Once an admission decision has been made, you will be notified in writing within two weeks of the committee’s decision. If you are admitted, a copy of your official program of study will be mailed under a separate cover. This program should be retained for your record.
