Miller Honors Programs

Deadline for 2010-2011 Applications: March 1, 2010.
Applications available now.

Two honors programs are available to our students:
  • Pre-Business Honors Program (for freshman and sophomores)
  • Miller College Honors Program (for juniors and seniors)

Meet the freshmen and sophomores in the Miller Honors Program.

You may participate in one of both or these programs. Both programs provide a specialized curriculum, peer support group, and supplemental learning outside the classroom with specially designed social and professional development activities. Courses in these programs provide access to accelerated and/or enriched business courses at the pre-business and major levels. These courses are more stimulating and challenging but not necessarily more time-consuming or difficult. They are smaller than regular classes and encourage active discussion and application of concepts.

Out-of-class programming includes film discussions, company visits, networking with corporate executives, professionalism events, an etiquette dinner, stress-free social gatherings, and much more.

Both programs include notation on your official university transcript. Students completing the Miller Honors Programs will be recognized at the college-level ceremony during May Commencement.

Benefits of these programs also include:
  • Recognition—acknowledgment of academic excellence
  • Dedicated faculty—honors-level courses taught by top business faculty
  • Scholarships—priority consideration for college-based scholarships
  • Network development—opportunity to connect and bond with successful peers, corporate partners, and academic leaders
  • Support—encouragement of devoted staff comprised of academic and professional staff dedicated to collaborating with high-achieving business students

The Pre-Business Honors Program welcomes 20 to 30 entering freshmen each year (including Miller Scholars) and encompasses the first two years of study. This curricular-based program is offered only to our highest achieving and motivated freshmen. This specialized curriculum allows you to take classes with other students like yourself in a small and enriched environment. The courses are filled with more discussion, more cases, and more hands-on learning. This program also provides direct admission to the Miller College of Business.

The Miller College Honors Program, available in 2010, is designed for students entering their selected major, typically at the beginning of their junior year.  The curriculum follows the same pace of the Pre-Business Honors Program, but you do not need to have been a pre-business honors student to apply.

Application Process
Applications for the 2010-2011 academic year are available now. Academic requirements for admission are selected each year by a faculty committee. Overall, we are looking for not only high academic-achieving students but also motivated students who are interested in a challenging opportunity with personal attention. Pre-Business Honors Program applications are due March 1st. Applications for the Miller College Honors Program will be available in spring 2010.

The university's Honors College at Ball State requires a separate application process. The Miller College of Business promotes student participation in both the university Honors College and the Miller Honors Programs.
