Allen D. Truell received his associate's degree from Hawthorne College, his bachelor's degree from New Hampshire College, his masters in education degree from Bowling Green State University, and his PhD from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Widely recognized for his large quantity of high-quality research, Truell’s work has been cited by scholars from leading academic institutions across Asia, Europe, and North America. He has published over 50 refereed articles in journals such as Behavior Research Methods, Instruments, & Computers, Business Education Forum, College Student Journal, Community College Journal of Research and Practice, Issues in Information Systems, Journal of Career and Technical Education, Journal of Education for Business, Journal of Online Learning, Journal of Technology Studies, NABTE Review, Organizational Systems Research Journal, and The Delta Pi Epsilon Journal.

He has received national recognition for his high-quality research from Delta Pi Epsilon (Independent Research), the National Association for Business Teacher Education (Outstanding Article), and the Organizational Systems Research Association (Best Paper).

His teaching areas include business communication, computer applications for business, and career and technical teacher education. Truell has received numerous dean’s teaching citations and was selected as the “Outstanding Graduate Teacher of the Year” in 1998 while at the University of Missouri-Columbia (COE). He has directed 19 master’s theses/projects and served on 12 doctoral committees, three as chair or co-chair.

He is also very active in the area of significant service. Highlights of his recent service activities include president of the Business Education and Computer Information Systems Research SIG (AERA), Delta Pi Epsilon national conference chair, University Grade Appeal Committee, and University Professional Education Committee. In 2007, Truell received the “Indiana Friend of FBLA” award for his long-term service to that organization.
