Profile Brien Smith is the associate dean for Miller College of Business at Ball State University. Smith attained his PhD in industrial/organizational psychology in 1989 from Auburn University. He has more than 20 years of administrative experience in higher education. Smith served as the chair for the Department of Marketing and Management (2002–2009), assistant to the dean for graduate programs (2001–2002), and vice chairperson of the Department of Management (1989–2001). He was promoted to full professor in 2008.
Smith has numerous refereed publications in some of the best journals in his field, including the Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Applied Social Psychology, Group and Organization Management, and Journal of Business and Psychology. He has delivered presentations and speeches at national and international conferences.
He has 10 years of leadership experience in the Ball State University Senate, including senate chair (twice) and faculty council chair. He is a coauthor of the current Ball State University Senate Constitution, teaches courses in human resource management, and received the 1994–1995 Ball State University Teaching Excellence in Teaching Award.
