Policy on Noncredit Training Workshops and Seminars

The Miller College of Business encourages its faculty to conduct, organize, and participate in workshops, seminars, and other forms of training for the benefit of the business community. The college feels that these kinds of activities bring (i) recognition of the college and the university to a broad audience, and (ii)intellectual enrichment to the individual faculty members involved, which, in turn, enhances the classroom experiences of students in academic programs.

The purpose of this document is to specify the policies and procedures which will govern these activities. These procedures are designed to ensure that (i) training and other noncredit educational activities carried out in the university's and/or the college's name are of consistently high quality, and (ii) units of the college or university that incur costs as a direct or indirect result of these activities are properly compensated. The Bureau of Business Research in the Miller College of Business will serve as the facilitating agent for ensuring that training activities conform to these standards.

These policies are effective as of July 1, 1999.

    (i) one that delivers instruction;
    (ii) one that is funded by fees paid by individual participants (or their employers);
    (iii) one that uses, in some capacity, the reputational, physical, or personal resources of the university and/or college.

Activities which use the university or college in a way, including, but not limited to, the use of the university or college name on promotional materials, handouts, or certificates, are not pure consulting activities, and if the other criteria are met, must follow guidelines set forth in this document.
