“This benefits them because they get the job done, but at the same time, it benefits me because I get to learn,” says Saberniak, who will graduate in 2009.Hundreds of Ball State accounting students also have gained practical experience and made valuable contacts through public, industrial, and governmental accounting internships. An internship helps to improve your understanding of the nature of business and the role of accounting. It also helps you determine which areas of accounting interest you, all the while boosting your confidence. To participate in the accounting internship program, you must be in your junior year and should have completed at least the first intermediate accounting course. Some employers, however, may require the completion of additional courses. Students and participating firms are matched through an interviewing process. During the internship period, you will be paid a fair salary. You may also earn up to 6 credit hours in accounting. The number of credit hours depends upon the length of the internship and the number of hours you will work.
