Ready for an infusion of knowledge that captures the mechanics of financial markets and which could one day put you at the helm of a large corporation? Eager to raise and deploy funds, manage liquidity, and attain business and investor objectives? As a major in finance, you’ll capitalize on analytical, quantitative, and conceptual skills and be guided by faculty renowned for top-notch teaching.

Learn how to face the uncertainties of the market with powerful problem-solving skills in corporate finance, management of financial institutions, security analysis and portfolio management, and personal financial planning. Build your confidence about the role of risky assets in a portfolio, your ability to value them, and the role of financial markets.

Choose from three concentration options:

  • business finance
  • financial planning and investments
  • financial analysis

You'll get a chance to apply what you've learned in class through internships and immersive learning experiences as well as the opportunity to manage a fund for the Ball State Foundation.

Major essentials
The finance undergraduate major consists of at least 126 credits divided into four groups of courses:

  • the University Core Curriculum: 41 credit hours
  • 13 undergraduate business foundation courses: 39 credit hours
  • specialized finance course work, including an 18-hour finance core, plus 9 credits of concentration option classes: 27 credit hours
  • general electives to round out your degree: 19 credit hours
