Characteristics of Current Miller Business Honors Program Students

Current students as applicants

We expect high grades and test scores of our applicants, but we also expect much more. To gauge eligibility, it may be most helpful to consider the characteristics of our current Honors Program students:
• Average GPA (English, math, physical and social sciences, and foreign language only): 3.75
• Average SAT: 1870
• Average ACT: 28
• Honors, AP, and college courses: English language and literature, foreign languages, calculus, chemistry, U.S. history, economics, statistics, political science, and government equating to 3-43 college credit hours

As high school students, besides studying, they dance, sing, play, compete, volunteer and so much more; current Miller Business Honors Program students were highly involved in their school and communities. They led and participated in numerous school organizations such as National Honors Society, student government, peer mentors, and every conceivable academic, athletic, and arts activity from academic decathlon to theatre production. They consistently earned academic honors for overall performance and subject-specific achievement. The majority of the students selflessly volunteered in local schools, communities, and with national organizations. Many of the students lettered in multiple sports and participated in state-level competitions. They also traveled abroad for cultural immersion, to practice foreign language abilities, and for mission work. In addition to these countless activities, many of the students also balanced part-time jobs.

Motivation is a primary characteristic of our honors students and key in being considered for our programs. We seek students who are inherently curious, who want to know the how and why of particular topics and are eager to give extra effort in pursuit of this knowledge. We are looking for students who desire active participation in the classroom, as well as in co-curricular and social opportunities, to take full advantage of Honors Program, Miller College, and university opportunities.

Current students at Ball State
With drive, support, and a specialized curriculum and programming, Miller Business Honors Program students continue to excel at the college level. After the first two years, these students earn an average 3.73 Ball State GPA. They regularly pursue unique, often unrelated, combinations of majors and minors. They remain just as involved at college as they were in high school, balancing leadership and membership in co- and extra-curricular activities, community service, and part-time employment.

A high percentage of these students take advantage of study abroad opportunities ranging from brief two-week experiences up to semester-long programs. Our students have traveled all over the globe, including such locations as Australia, China, Germany, Brazil, Ireland, Spain, Italy, France, and the United Kingdom.

The students’ efforts and our program offerings are directed to best prepare the students to earn full-time employment and graduate school admission at highly sought-after organizations. Although this program is still in its infancy, our students have already completed internships at and have received full-time job offers from national and regional headquarters of top companies such as:
