Edwards Scholarship Selection Criteria

To be considered for our department's scholarships, you’ll need to have applied for admission to the university, declared a major within our department, and completed the following application procedures by January 1 of your senior year in high school.

  • State that you will complete the prerequisites for MATHS 165 (Calculus I) before you leave high school.
  • Have high school mathematics grades of B or above (with a majority of the grades being As) and have an overall high school grade point average of 3.5.
  • Complete the application form (PDF), including a 500-word essay explaining why you chose a major in the mathematical sciences department.
  • Have letters of recommendation from two current or former high school math teachers and your guidance counselor sent directly to the department.

To maintain your Edwards scholarship award, you’ll need to enroll in MATHS 165 or a higher level course during your first semester, participate in university- and department-sponsored activities, make normal progress as a full-time student within our department, and maintain a grade point average of at least 3.5 for mathematics courses and at least 3.0 overall.

Our scholarships and awards committee determines eligibility for renewal of other scholarships within our department.
