INTENSIVE SUMMER WORKSHOPS OPTION

Admissions Criteria:

  • Bachelors Degree in Music from an Accredited Institution
  • Admission to Graduate Study in Music at Ball State University
  • Indiana passing scores on all sections of the Praxis 1: PPST

Curriculum

  • Admission to this program begins by submitting required materials to the Ball State Educational Licensing Office.
  • Applications for music licensing will be forwarded to the Coordinator of Music Education.
  • Specific course requirements are determined as a result of evaluation of the candidate’s transcript.

  • Music Education Intensive Summer Workshops (6-9 hours)
    * Based on selected license and individual needs of each candidate
    Instrumental & General Music License
    MUSED 640 General Methods Workshop
    MUSED 593 Instrumental Techniques Workshop
    MUSED 660 Instrumental Methods Workshop (MUSED 593 is a prerequisite)
    Vocal & General Music License
    MUSED 640 General Methods Workshop
    MUSED 650 Vocal Methods Workshop
  • Other Music Requirements (Variable)
    * Based on selected license and individual needs of each candidate
    Applied Instrument, Voice and/or Piano Study
    Supplemental coursework in Theory, History, Conducting, Ensembles
  • Field Experience (10-15 hours)
    Following completion of all of the above course requirements, candidates must complete the two required field experience components. Specific requirements will vary based on individual needs of each candidate.
    • MUSED 692 Special Topics: Field Practicum (3 hrs.)
    • Student Teaching (Requirements may vary)
      Note: Candidates who hold a limited license in music and have been teaching in the same position for two years may complete the required Supervised Field Experience during a third year in the same position (with pay). Otherwise, candidates must complete the traditional field experience components offered during fall and spring terms.
