Individual Music Scholarships (N-Z)

The following scholarship awards are available to undergraduate students in the Ball State School of Music:

Nancy Vinkemulder Scholarship
This award is for music students.

Phillip S. Ewart Opera Performance Scholarship
Recipient can be a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or transfer student who will participate in the opera theatre program. The student must demonstrate superior talent through an audition process and must have and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The scholarship may be renewed at the discretion of the director of the Ball State Opera Theatre.

Presidential Scholarships in the Arts
The School of Music offers a limited number of scholarships to deserving students who present a strong academic record, high test scores, and superior talent. This scholarship provides the recipient with a 50% reduction in tuition and is renewable for a total of four years.

Presser Foundation Grant
This scholarship is given to an outstanding music major at or after the end of his or her junior year. The recipient is designated a Presser Scholar. This prestigious award recognizes excellence and is given for one year only. The choice of a recipient is guided solely by consideration of excellence and merit.

Psi Iota Xi Charities Inc. Mary Maxon Music Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded each year to one Ball State undergraduate student who is an outstanding musician of high character and enrolled half-time or more. The student must meet the minimum grade point average established by the College of Fine Arts for all scholarship recipients. Financial need does not need to be demonstrated. The scholarship may be renewed at the discretion of the selection committee.

Robert Hargreaves Scholarship
This award is for music students.

Robert T. Carr Memorial Award
This award honors the memory of Dr. Robert T. Carr and is presented to a promising student or students in the area of music education. Recipients must have full-time status at Ball State and must be in their sophomore, junior, or senior year of study. They must be in good standing with the university. Financial need is not necessarily a consideration.

The David and Mary Jane Sursa Fine Arts Endowment
Sursa Fine Arts Scholarships are awarded to entering freshman students based on academics and performance in art, dance, theatre, or music. They are renewable for three additional years.

The Glenna Marie Rundell Memorial Scholarship
Preference is given to undergraduate students majoring in music education and students with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Scholarship awards may be used to recruit or retain high-ability students. This scholarship may be renewed a total of three times at the discretion of the scholarship committee provided the recipient continues to meet the stated criteria.

The Joseph T. and Suzanne E. Naumcheff Music Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to junior or senior students majoring in music. Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. The scholarship may be renewed at the discretion of the selection committee.

The Presidential Scholars
This program offers students of top ability the opportunity to compete for merit-based scholarships. For more information, students may attend the Cardinal Preview Day designated for scholarship candidates. Eligibility requirements include a record of high academic achievement and strong test scores. An application is required (available from the Office of Admissions).

The Sylvia D. and Ralph D. Folk Memorial Scholarship
Awards are made to full-time Ball State students who have declared a major in the School of Music. Recipients must also be active in university, high school, and/or community organizations, especially in the area of music. Recipients must have earned a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Uttamial Shah Memorial Scholarship
This award is given to a Ball State student majoring in music.

Whitinger Scholars
Recipients must be in the top 10 percent of their high school graduating class and have an SAT score of 1200 or ACT score of 29.

William and Mary Hargreaves Memorial Scholarship
The recipient must be a performer of an instrument in the string family: violin or viola, first choice; cello, second choice; double bass, third choice.
