The Ball State Symphony Orchestra is an all-student orchestra comprised of music majors, minors, and non-majors.
The orchestra performs music from all genres and time periods that support an intense and relevant orchestral program through symphonic and opera experiences. Within an academic setting, the BSSO strives for professionalism and achievement of the highest possible level of performance.
Some advanced BSSO members are offered the opportunity to play in the Muncie Symphony Orchestra, a local professional orchestra including members from the School of Music faculty and regional professional musicians.
Any student musician who would like to participate in the BSSO may audition at the beginning of each school year, with openings filled as needed throughout the year. Below are the string audition excerpts for the 2016/2017 school year.
String auditions for the Ball State Symphony Orchestra will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 starting at 2:00pm in Sursa Hall. A sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board by Professor Droste's office in the Music Instruction Building (MI-130).
Wind and percussion auditions will be held in conjunction with the Ball State Band Department. Please visit the Ball State Bands website for more information.
