After graduating from Bates College, Dr. David W. Concepción received his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Among others, Dr. Concepción teaches Ethics, Environmental Ethics, Feminist Ethics & Epistemology, and Contemporary Ethical Theory (including Metaethics). He also leads Stance: An International Undergraduate Philosophy Journal, the Philosophy Program’s immersive learning course. Dr. Concepción has received all three of BSU’s top teaching honors: “Lawhead Teaching Award,” “Excellence in Teaching Award,” and the “Outstanding Teaching Award.” Dr. Concepción’s recent publications include “Overcoming Oppressive Self-Blame: Gray Agency in Underground Railroads,” Hypatia Vol. 24, No. 1, 81-99 and the award-winning “Reading Philosophy with Background Information and Metacognition” Teaching Philosophy, 27:4, 351-368. Dr. Concepción’s research has been funded by sources including the Lumina Foundation for Education, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, andIndiana Campus Compact. Past service includes: Interim co-director of Freshman Connections, Ball State’s learning community program.
