Jeremy Campbell won the gold medal in the F44 discus throw setting a Paralympic record of 60.05m. The Order of Ikkos was established to recognize the coaches whose athlete’s medal during the Olympic/Paralympic Games.

This medal is inspired by Ikkos, the first recorded Olympic coach in Ancient Greece. He is known for his coaching ability as he led two fellow Tarentine athletes to gold in the same event, Pentathlon. The USOC established the Order of Ikkos prior to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and provides the opportunity for athletes to recognize their coaches for their leadership and inspiration to achieve world-class performance.

The Order of Ikkos medal was a uniquely designed medal that will recognize the coach for their integral part in the success of their Olympian/Paralympians.  It is not tradition for the IOC (International Olympic Committee) to recognize or reward the coaches of medal winning athletes.  For this reason the USOC Coaching Education Department decided that the Ikkos program and medal would be the perfect way to recognize American coaches who assisted that athlete in their success. The Order of Ikkos Honor Roll of Coaches is available at http://www.teamusa.org/About-the-USOC/Sport-Performance/Coaching-Education/Order-of-Ikkos/Past-Olympic-Ikkos-Recipients.aspx .
