Ball State Sport Administration Students Defend Case Study Title
Chapel Hill, NC - A team of four graduate students from the Ball State Sport Administration Program took home top honors in the Graduate Case Study Competition held at the Scholarly Conference on College Sport. Team members Jennifer Lape, Erin LaValley, Brad Meadows, and Kevin Royse defended their 2009 title besting finalists Baylor University and Georgia State University. Faculty Advisors Dr. Lawrence Judge and Dr. David Pierce accompanied the victorious team.
The Ball State team competed in a two-round case competition. In the first round the team wrote a 1,000-word position statement regarding the University of New Orleans' proposed transition to Division III athletics. After being selected as one of three finalists, the team presented their best scenario for the Privateers to maintain their membership in Division I athletics.
According to team captain Brad Meadows, "This was a great learning experience. All of our academic skills and training were used to solve the case and deliver our presentation."
The event was hosted from April 21-23, 2010 at the William and Ida Friday Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and sponsored by the College Sport Research Institute (CSRI).
