Physics Colloquium-February 16, 2012
Games, Fun, and Learning
Abstract: There has been a lot of buzz about the role of games in education, from Thomas and Seely Brown's “The New Culture of Learning” to “Reality is Broken” to the MacArthur Foundation's Badges for Lifelong Learning competition. In this presentation, Dr. Gestwicki will provide an introduction to ludology---the study of games in terms of what they are, how they are made, and what impact they have on the player and society. Central to the discussion will be the definition of “fun” and its relationship to the science of teaching and learning.
