Dr. Nishikawa received her Ph.D. in political science from Michigan State University in 2002. Her primary research and teaching interests are in Comparative Politics. Within the field of comparative politics, she especially focuses on electoral institutions and political parties. While Japan has been her principal laboratory, her work has covered broader areas of the world. She has published a book, entitled Mixed Electoral Systems: Contamination and Its Consequences (With Federico Ferrara and Erik Herron). She has also published numerous papers in this area, which have appeared in Comparative Political Studies, Electoral Studies, Party Politics, Women and Politics, and the Japanese Journal of Electoral Studies.
