Option 2 of the Doctor of Education in Science Education requires 90 graduate hours. This option is designed primarily for individuals seeking employments as instructors of science content at community colleges and liberal arts colleges and universities. Community college now enroll more than half of all undergraduate students in higher education. In many states, they are the key vehicles for economic mobility and social equality, helping to train and re-train the nation's workforce. The liberal art's emphasis on broad training and intellectual development is especially appealing to faculty who are looking for opportunities to combine innovative and successful teaching with modest but productive research.
The major consists of approximately equal components of education and science with supporting work in research methodologies. The dissertation may emphasize either science education or laboratory/field science in a chosen science discipline.
A teaching internship, a required part of the program, allows you to acquire experience in the techniques of conventional as well as technology oriented systems instruction.
