The Department of Sociology awards a limited number of graduate assistantships. These assistantships are competitive and are offered based on GPA, experience, and letters of recommendation. Students awarded graduate assistantships receive a stipend, and a part of tuition and some fees are waived. Graduate assistants will be responsible for some fees. Graduate assistants work 10-20 hours per week helping faculty members with research, teaching, and service responsibilities. Renewal of the assistantship for a second year is available depending on GPA and performance of GA duties during the first year.
Students in sociology often have training and skills that make them strong candidates for graduate assistantships in other areas of the university. The Graduate School offers more information on GradSchool and on financial aid.
If you are interested in a graduate assistantship, be sure to indicate your interest in your application materials.
