Biography
Sarah Drake Brown joined the Department of History in August 2007and she is the Director of Social Studies Education in the Department. She has published articles on history teacher certification, state standards in history, and systematic approaches to improving historical thinking. In 2003 the Organization of American Historians and the American Historical Association published the report she co-authored with John J. Patrick, History Education in the United States: A Survey of Teacher Certification and State-Based Standards and Assessments for Teachers and Students. She received her M.A. in history from Purdue University and her Ph.D. in curriculum studies with a focus on history education from Indiana University. Her current work focuses on teachers' development of historical cognition.
