Lawrence (“Larry”) H. Gerstein is a George and Frances Ball Distinguished Professor of Psychology-Counseling, Director of Doctoral Training in Counseling Psychology, and Director of the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies. He earned his B.B.A. from Bernard Baruch College, and M.A. in Rehabilitation Counseling and Ph.D. in Counseling and Social Psychology from The University of Georgia. Gerstein completed his pre-doctoral internship in the Counseling Center at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He is coeditor of the International Handbook of Cross-Cultural Counseling: Cultural Assumptions and Practices Worldwide, Essentials of Cross-Cultural Counseling, and Handbook for Social Justice in Counseling Psychology: Leadership, Vision, and Action. Gerstein is a fellow of the American Psychological Association (Divisions of Counseling Psychology, Peace Psychology, and International Psychology) and coeditor of The Counseling Psychologist International Forum. He has a long history of conducting community projects and has expertise in peace studies, international psychology, social justice, help-seeking, emotion recognition, regulation, and awareness, and Employee Assistance Programs. Gerstein teaches the introductory doctoral seminar, doctoral research colloquium, and social justice in counseling psychology graduate level class.
