I received a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, with a concentration in social and cultural foundations and multicultural education, from the University of Washington in 2005. My dissertation examined the concept of transformative education from a variety of philosophical perspectives. The purpose of this conceptual and theoretical research was to assist teachers in recognizing and more effectively navigating the dilemmas of teaching for transformative understanding. I am currently a member of the Philosophy of Education Society, the American Educational Research Association, and the American Educational Studies Association. Broadly speaking, my research interests are concerned with issues of equity and social justice in education, teaching for transformative understanding, ethical self-formation, and multicultural anti-racist education.
