Biography
Michelle Glowacki-Dudka, Ph.D., known as Shelly, has been working in the field of adult education since 1995. She completed her Masters from Northern Illinois University in 1997 and her Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1999. She has found adult education roles within continuing professional education in Illinois. While in Wisconsin, she studied a distance education program and the collaboration that undergirds program success. She worked with the state to implement a family literacy initiative grant, andwas an adjunct professor for both NIU and UWM. In 2002, Shelly spent six months at a private woman¹s college in Saudi Arabia helping to establish the community of teaching and learning there with a diverse international faculty and administration. In 2003, she began working at Ball State University in Indiana inAdult, Higher, and Community Education. Achieving tenure in 2009, Shelly is active in teaching, research, and service. Her research centers on buildingcommunities of learners in multiple settings. She is active with AAACE as an editor of the Future¹s Column in Adult Learning Quarterly (AL), a SIG chair for Sustainability and Environmental Education, and a reviewer for AEQ, AL, and New Horizons. She has co-authored a how-to-book about teaching interactive online groups and a New Directions series book about embracing the margins of adult education, and multiple articles and conference papers.
