Open Admission: All students admitted to Ball State University will be admitted to the Pre-Elementary Education Program by declaring their interest in a program in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education


First Year   (31 semester hours)

EDEL 100: Education in a Democratic Society (3):  I-book required on all EDEL100 (with Community Service Practicum)

MATHS 201: Numbers, Algebra, and Probability for the Elementary Teacher (4)

ENG 103: English Composition 1 (3)

ENG 104: English Composition 2 (3)

By the end of the first year, each student should have:

  1. Passed the Pre-professional Skills Test.
  2. Identified a major in Early Childhood or in Elementary Education.
  3. Identified a Content Concentration Area to pursue as part of the Elementary Education program; (Early Childhood majors do not have a Concentration Area.)
  4. All Department and College Standards to continue in the program.


Second Year   (35 semester hours)

EDPSY 260: Human Growth and Development for Elementary Education (3)

MATHS 202: Data Analysis, Geometry, and Measurement For the Elementary Teacher (K-6) (3)

HSC 350: Elementary School Health Program (3)

EDEL 200: Planning for the Elementary Classroom/Practicum (3) (Departmental Permission Required) (Prerequisites: EDEL 100)

By the end of the second year, each student should have:

1. Complete all Department and College Standards, while enrolled in EDEL 200;

2. Achieved at least a 2.5 overall G.P.A.;

3. Completed EDEL 200 with at least a grade of "C"; and

4. Been admitted into the Teaching Curriculum with an identified major of Elementary Education (including a designated Concentration Area), or with an identified major of Early Childhood Education.

4. Met all Department and College Standards to continue in the program.
