Department Committees
Advanced Graduate Faculty Committee (3-5 members)
The committee addresses issues related to graduate programs offered by the Department. Committee members interview and recommend each applicant for the doctoral programs. Evaluation of faculty applications for graduate faculty status is an additional responsibility.
The advisor for doctoral programs serves as chair of the committee composed of elected tenure-track Level 1 graduate faculty members. A rotation system for the committee has been established.
Curriculum Committee (5 members)
The committee is responsible for undergraduate and graduate program changes in the Department. Committee members are responsible for supervising the paperwork and Department approval to make any changes in programs and courses. Members may be asked to represent the Department to give statements concerning proposed changes at other related college and university committees.
The committee is composed of elected tenure-track faculty members from the three program areas of reading, early childhood, and professional core. A rotation system for the committee has been established.
Promotion and Tenure Committee (7 members)
The committee is responsible for reviewing and making recommendations for faculty promotion and tenure. In addition, the committee reviews the P & T document annually and secures Department and College approval of the document.
The committee is composed of five elected full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members who have earned the rank of associate professor or professor. The Department representative on the College P & T committee and the Department Chair are ex-officio non-voting members. A rotation system for the committee has been established.
Recognition Committee (9 members)
The responsibilities of this committee are:
- To recognize outstanding achievement of faculty members.
- To recognize outstanding achievement of students by awarding department scholarships, monitoring the departmental honors program, selecting annual outstanding seniors, and arranging an annual recognition reception.
- To conduct the annual election of faculty members to department committees.
- To collect dues for the department social club.
- To plan social events, arrange hospitality activities, and send encouragement to faculty members.
The committee is composed of six elected contract or tenure-track faculty members, one appointed faculty member, and two academic advisors. A rotation system for the committee has been established.
Search and Screen Committee (5 members)
The responsibility of the committee is to seek outstanding faculty members who can be hired by the Department. Committee members are responsible for advertising available faculty positions, reviewing applications, and interviewing candidates seeking positions at Ball State University.
The committee is composed four elected members and one appointed members who are tenure-track faculty representing the program areas of reading, early childhood, and professional core. A rotation system for the committee has been established.
Salary Committee (5 members)
The committee prepares the annual salary document for the Department.
The committee is composed of five elected tenure-track faculty members. A rotation system for the committee has been established.
