How many weekly hours am I required to work to meet the obligations of the field based experience?

You must work 10-30 hours per week.  All field based experience courses are ABA specific and follow the BACB task list.

Do the field based experience hours count towards the experience hours needed for the BCBA exam?

There are three categories of experience defined by the BACB:  supervised independent fieldwork, practicum, and intensive practicum.  Our program is approved under the supervised independent fieldwork category, which means 1500 supervised independent fieldwork hours are required prior to the BCBA exam.  While you are enrolled in the field based experience course, you may count 10-30 hours per week towards your total supervised independent fieldwork hours as long as you are supervised by a BCBA and participating in activities outlined in the BACB Task List.  You and your supervisor must complete the BACB experience training module before accumulating supervised independent fieldwork hours.

Will fewer hours be required for the summer field based experience course?

You will still be required to work 10-30 hours a week over the summer semester.

Where can I complete my SPCE 683 Autism field based experience?

You must ensure that you have the opportunity in the setting to work with a variety of individuals who have a current diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. You must ensure that you have the opportunity to implement behavioral programs you have been trained to develop in SPCE 609.

Do I find my own site for the field based experience?

Yes, you are responsible for finding a field based experience site. However, the curriculum specialist in the Department of Special Education can assist you in making sure the site is appropriate based upon your career goals.

What if I have to change my field based experience location during the semester?

All you need to do is to submit a new Field Experience Placement Form to your Instructor and ensure that the new site will allow you to continue to meet the requirements of your experience.  Weekly hour logs are required regardless of a change in field based experience sites mid-semester.
