Prospect Student Letter

Dear Prospective Student:

Congratulations on your admission to Ball State! We write to express our appreciation for your interest in pursuing a teaching career and for choosing our university.

For its entire history, Ball State has made the preparation of future teachers a high priority. In fact, the university was founded to fill the need for well-prepared teachers. We take great pride along with our colleagues and fellow alumni in holding high expectations for teacher education majors. Finding ways to distinguish our graduates from others and making them highly prized across the globe is a commitment.

One of the ways that we believe our future graduates will be uniquely suited for teaching tomorrow’s students is in their technological expertise. At Ball State, you will have access to state-of-the-art technology, including a high-speed, campus-wide wireless network and the nationally-recognized Global Media Network digital video conferencing capabilities.

To make the most of our top-notch resources, students enrolling as teacher education majors are required to obtain an Apple laptop. You will get free tech support at the iCare Corner, a walk-up help center in the Teachers College Building. Plus, you will create a digital portfolio showcasing your progress and development as a teacher. When you graduate, you will have an outstanding multimedia resume for potential employers to review.

We strongly encourage you to wait to purchase your computer until you come to campus for Orientation, when you can look at the different styles available. This is to assure that the most advanced technology is an option for you. For more information, visit http://www.bsu.edu/teachers/laptops, where you will find resources on computer technologies in teacher education. We also encourage you to take EDTEC 120: Introduction to Computing and Digital Media for Teachers during the summer at the Fishers Center in Fishers, Indiana, to learn all about your Apple computer. Please go to http://tc.bsu.edu/edtec120 for more information.

The cost of a required computer can be added to your financial aid application, which is used to determine the amount of financial aid you receive. For additional information, visit the website for the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, http://www.bsu.edu/finaid, or call 800-227-4017.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us at tcdean@bsu.edu or at the phone numbers below. We look forward to seeing you on campus and wish you a productive, successful year.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael Modesitt
