Labs and Studios

At Ball State you will have access to the most innovative, state-of-the-art technology in our labs. Check it out:

Visual Image and Animation Lab (VIA) II in Ball Communication Building: a classroom and general purpose university lab space equipped with software and hardware to give users full access to the new field of interactivity. Open to all students, faculty, and staff, this Macintosh OS X environment offers an array of audio and video editing software and equipment, including 30 Mac G5 work stations, each featuring Final Cut Pro and Adobe software products such as InDesign, Illustrator, PhotoShop; three private post production suites; and one voice-over lab for additional/advanced dialogue replacement (ADR). The general purpose section of the lab provides access to TCOM servers; however, TCOM students are encouraged to get a fire-wire drive also.

Media Lab: 
a lab of nine individual suites, including a high-definition suite, for audio and video editing and postproduction. 

Audio: Three professionally set-up, insulated audio suites including a floating floor and surround sound to rival any audio suite in Los Angeles, New York, or Nashville. Associate Professor of telecommunications Tim Pollard says, "If you work on these pieces and know how to use them, you can go anywhere in the world to do audio work.” Also, the Letterman and Clone Audio Suites that offer 24/7 key card access; students usually begin using in sophomore year when taking audio, production, and multimedia classes. Features state-fo-the-aret Protools software, which is used at Disney Imagineering Studios.

Video: Nine video suites with large monitors to facilitate production and workflow and NTSC screens to show how a piece will be seen on broadcast media. One high-definition suite with a high-definition monitor and VCR used for post production of projects like the 2007 Summer HD movie and Academy Awards submissions.

Visual Image and Animation (VIA) Digital Media Studio: a high-end Windows-based 30-station lab dedicated to three-dimensional modeling (3D) animation and time-based media. Equipped to support extensive audio/video capture, editing, and electronic publishing.
