Admission and Application Information

Admission to the Program


To begin the master's program in telecommunications with a digital storytelling emphasis, you must be admitted to both the Graduate School and the Department of Telecommunications.

The Graduate School requires a bachelor's degree from a college or university that is accredited by its regional accrediting association and one of the following:

  • A cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale at the baccalaureate level.
  • A cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in the latter half of the baccalaureate level.

For acceptance into the telecommunications with a digital storytelling emphasis program, students must have completed the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and present a portfolio that demonstrates proficiency in relevant computer skills and written, verbal, and visual communication. At minimum, the portfolio should contain:

  • A cover letter introducing and explaining the contents of the portfolio.
  • An original, 1,500-word academic, creative, and/or professional writing sample.
  • A transcript indicating a grade of "B" or better in an undergraduate oral performance course and a syllabus or official description of the course.
  • An original project that emphasizes skill in visual communication (such as Web page design, graphic design, publication design, broadcast design, theatrical design, or architectural design).
  • A list of software programs with which you are fluent (not including basic e-mail and word processing applications).

You may include other items that are relevant to the degree. Please indicate whether any of the items meet more than one requirement.
