TCOM professors haven’t gotten to where they are through tunnel vision. They participate in the community around them, researching and interacting with their community to contribute and affect it significantly. Here are some examples of their research and community involvement:

Nancy Carlson, Tim Pollard, and Rich Swingley produced eight, 30-second public service announcements (PSAs) for the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, using all student production and post-production crews, for airing on statewide television and cable systems.

Nancy Carlson produced a documentary on the Indiana segment of the National Road U.S. Highway 40.

Nancy Carlson developed and will teach a course focused on film trailers with Sichuan Normal University in Chengdu, China.

Nancy Carlson has conducted a summer rock ‘n roll camp for young musicians.

Jim Needham and more than 400 students volunteered at the Red Cross and the Back2School Teacher’s Store, producing television PSAs and presentations and registering the service mark for Back2School Teachers’ Store, designing the logo and stationary, and helping launch its unique services.

Phil Bremen volunteered for the Heartland Film Festival as a member of the committee planning, organizing, and executing annual announcement celebration that unveils participating films and launches ticket sales for the October film festival.

Dom Caristi serves as the pool coordinator for Indiana Supreme Court Cameras in the Court Experiment, Delaware County Circuit Court 3.
