Telecommunications Scholarships
Application
: Main application for departmental scholarships. Most scholarship deadlines are due in early March.
Letterman Telecommunications Scholarship Guidelines Application Scholarship Criteria: A) For full-time students who are first-quarter juniors through first-quarter seniors, who are majors or minors in telecommunications. B) Grades are not a criterion or condition for eligibility or consideration. C) Applicants must have reasonable expectation of becoming a professional in the telecommunications industry. D) Except for the first scholarship, each scholarship is to be awarded on the basis of a creative endeavor. This may be in the form of a written project, a research effort, an audio tape, a video tape, a film or similar presentation so long as it can be clearly defined as creative in the area of telecommunications.
TCOM Merit Endowment Scholarship
Guidelines
Scholarship Criteria: A) Incoming freshman students majoring in telecommunications; B) Academic index of 3.0 or higher, or transfer students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; C) SAT score of 1000 (old system) or 1500 (new system); D) Renewable for three years, allowing a total of four years eligibility provided the student continues to meet the stated criteria and a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Jack McQuate Scholarship
Guidelines
Scholarship Criteria: A) Recipients must have at least sophomore standing, be enrolled full-time at Ball State and pursuing a career in broadcast journalism; B) Recipients must have a 3.0 overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale; C) Student should exhibit exceptional aptitude in areas that will enhance his or her career in broadcast journalism; D) Evidence of need may also be submitted for consideration; E) Students must submit a written statement not to exceed 500 words outlining what he or she sees as the most serious problem confronting broadcast journalism today, and possible solutions to those problems. Judging and selection will be done by Ball State, with final approval of the IAPBA board. Award will be presented at the annual AP spring meeting; F) The 2005 and 2006 awards were for $1,000 each. Donor prefers a $3,000 annual award for all future awards.
Molly Dailey Telecommunications Internship Fund
Guidelines
Scholarship Criteria: Awards two scholarships for $1,500 each. A) Students majoring in telecommunications whose career paths lead them to internships in the large cities of the major markets. B) Preference will be given to citizens of the United States of America and the state of Indiana. C) Must be a full-time student. D) Grade point average and financial need will not be criteria for selection. E) Recipients will exemplify the high spirit and dedicated drive that characterized Molly Dailey and share her passion for a career in telecommunications. F) In the event the fund cannot be used for the purpose initially intended, the chair and the dean may revise its purpose, keeping in mind the donor’s original intent and matching it as closely as possible.
John Eiden Radio Scholarship
Application
Scholarship Criteria: A) Must be a telecommunications major at Ball State B) Minimum GPA 3.0 overall C) At least junior standing at the time of application D) Radio experience at IPR, WCRD or commercial station and E) Essay (maximum 500 words) on “What I’ve Learned in Radio.”
Pearson McMahon Fletcher England Scholarship Fund
Guidelines
Scholarship Criteria: A) Undergraduate students in the College of Communication, Information, and Media. B) Seniors, juniors and sophomores in good standing. C) Scholarship being “in residence” learning experience at Pearson McMahon Fletcher England (PMFE). D) PMFE provided the “challenge” (case study and/or product). The candidate must provide a finished product, idea, or resolution. This PMFE “challenge” will be available at the beginning of the school year. E) Finalists will be judged by a panel consisting of Ron Pearson, Christie McMahon, Chelsea Wilson, Emily Thompson, Al Rent and Joe Misiewicz. F) Finalists will present to PMFE and Ball State officials the first week of April. G) Winners will be announced at the TCOM Banquet.
Morry E. Mannies Sportscasting Scholarship

Application
Scholarship Criteria: A) Junior or senior student majoring in telecommunications; B) Student should have a declared interest in sportscasting, as will be affirmed in the application process; C) Consideration will be given to academic achievements; D) Preference will be given to an applicant with sportscasting experience.
“Dr. Joe” TCOM Scholarship
Guidelines
Scholarship Criteria: A) Student majoring or minoring in telecommunications, preferably pursuing the sales option; B) Grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; C) Junior standing at the time of the application; and D) Student who has demonstrated leadership at Ball State; E) Fixed award amount of $1,000.
The Jennifer Hinderliter Memorial Scholarship
Guidelines
Application
Scholarship Criteria: A) Undergraduate students majoring in telecommunications; B) Students from inner city high schools C) Preference shall be given to incoming freshman and transfer students; however, sophomores, juniors and seniors are eligible; D) Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; E) Scholarship shall be renewed a maximum of three years, provided the student meets the above stated criteria.
Steve Bell News Packaging Award
Guidelines
Scholarship Criteria: A) Students majoring in telecommunications. B) Awarded to a student or student team that produces the best news packages for WCRH-TV.
WIPB Broadcasting Scholarship
Guidelines
Application
Scholarship Criteria: A) Junior or senior majoring in telecommunications with an interest in television broadcasting; B) Student must have a 3.0 academic average at the end of the semester prior to applying for the scholarship; C) Students must write a 500-750 word essay on the general topic of "Discuss how the Internet will impact broadcast television in the future"; D) Awarded annually each spring in the amount of $500.
