Workshops
Interested in additional help in a class? Want to prepare for a big test? Need to brush up on your study skills? Do you want to work on test anxiety? The Learning Center offers free workshops during the academic year. The workshop topics are intended to cover a wide variety of topics. The workshops titled Study Tips provide information on time management, note taking, and using textbooks efficiently. In the Reading Rate Improvement workshop an emphasis is placed on developing a flexible reading rate. Techniques for improving reading speed are demonstrated and practiced during the workshop session. The Learning Styles workshop provides insight into preferred learning modalities. Two self-reported surveys give participants more information on right brain/left brain preferences as well as visual/auditory/kinesthetic preferences. Specific information on how to prepare for exams is given in the Prepare for Finals workshop. Students are encouraged to take action steps before, during, and after examinations.
Individualized, one-on-one instruction is offered in tutoring sessions through the Study Strategies area of the Learning Center. Peer tutors can offer study techniques to students which apply to the classes they are taking. For an appointment call 285-3779.
