Responsibilities: Ball State seeks a visionary leader for the position of dean of university libraries. The dean must support and transform virtual as well as physical services, programs, and collections to meet the challenges of the 21st century. The dean, who reports to the vice president for information technology, serves as the chief administrative officer of the University Libraries by envisioning, articulating, and driving an agenda to integrate, strengthen, and expand the University Libraries’ systems and networks that support the university’s mission for excellence in teaching, research, and national leadership. The dean fosters development of library resources, services, and programs responsive to current and anticipated curricular, research, and service needs of Ball State University. The dean provides leadership in communicating and advancing the interests of the university libraries in university, local, state, national, and international contexts, and acts as a liaison with university administrative and governance bodies. We seek a dean who values diversity and recognizes the critical collaborative role faculty, staff, and students play in the life of the university.
Minimum Qualifications: Earned MLS/MLIS/MIS master’s degree from ALA-accredited program; a minimum of five years of increasingly responsible experience in an academic library, including significant administrative experience in budgetary and personnel areas; demonstrated skill in planning, leadership, and communications; significant experience with information consortia and other cooperative entities and with emerging information technologies and library systems; evidence of a strong commitment to the academic values of Ball State University and to support the libraries’ programs in education, research, public service, and professional development.
Preferred qualifications: earned doctorate or second master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education; innovative leadership in library applications of Information Technology; strong record of developing external budgetary resources in support of research, teaching, service, and professional growth opportunities; experience with student and faculty governance organizations and with community groups.

INFORMATION SERVICES LIBRARIAN
BALL STATE UNIVERSITY
Responsibilities: Provide specialized reference service to students, faculty, and others through in-person, telephone, and online, chat; provide individualized research consultation; provide outreach and service to the distance learning community; participate collaboratively with colleagues and faculty to develop, promote, and provide library instruction and information literacy; participate in collection development for print and electronic materials.
Minimum Qualifications: MLS/MLIS/MIS degree from an ALA accredited program; experience with electronic information services and library systems and their applications for information service and instruction; experience with and strong commitment to information service and library instruction; working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office applications, Web development tools, and social media; effective oral and written communication skills; assignment may require working some evenings and/or weekends.
Preferred qualifications: Additional advanced degrees; experience with web page design and development; experience with federal government publications; experience with legal reference; experience with small-screen mobile smart device applications; work experience in providing library services to a distance community; work experience in providing liaison services to selected academic departments.
