The teaching major in chemistry will prepare you to meet Indiana state licensing requirements for teaching chemistry in grades 9-12.
You’ll take courses in general, organic, and inorganic chemistry; biochemistry; physics; and calculus. You’ll also take educational methods courses to learn education concepts and principles and take part in student teaching.
You have opportunities to work with faculty on research or complete an internship. You will learn about and use modern scientific research-grade equipment. Instruments and equipment include 400- and 300-megahertz nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers, several infrared and visible ultraviolet spectrometers, atomic absorption and emission spectrometers, gas and high-performance liquid chromatographs, ultracentrifuges, electrophoresis equipment, and many computers.
