Admission Requirements

As an international student, you will apply for admission through the Rinker Center for International Programs, which provides you with a variety of support and services.

The level of study you wish to pursue and your current academic level and past academic performance determine the criteria, requirements, and processes you must meet and follow in order to gain admittance into Ball State University. So, which requirements should you follow? These descriptions will help you determine which is appropriate for you:

Freshman
You are a freshman student if you:

  • have completed high school or secondary school, and
  • have not attended a university or college or other post-secondary institution, and
  • wish to earn a bachelor's or associate's degree.

You will follow the freshman admission requirements and application procedures.

Transfer
You are a transfer student if you:

  • have attended a university or post-secondary institution for at least one semester, and
  • have not completed a bachelor's degree.

You will follow the transfer student admission requirements and application procedures.

Graduate
You are a graduate student if you:

  • have already earned a bachelor's degree that is comparable to an U.S. bachelor's degree of four years; or
  • have obtained a master's or doctoral degree from an accredited institution in your country or in the United States.

You will follow the graduate student admission requirements and application procedures.

Conditional
To request and be considered for conditional admission, you must:

  • Submit an official TOEFL score between 173/500 and 213/550 and sit for an English proficiency test upon arrival to determine what remedial English courses must be completed before beginning full academic courses; or attend and successfully complete the Ball State Intensive English Program or submit a TOEFL score of 213/550 or higher; and
  • Submit an autobiographical statement; and
