Distance, online, and continuing education—offered at Ball State through the School of Extended Education—facilitate learning for a variety of people, situations, and educational goals.
Programs are divided into credit and noncredit categories:
Credit Programs
Whether you earn a degree or not, courses offered through the credit program earn you college credit. You belong to this category if you are one of the following:
Degree-seeking students
- High school seniors: As a high school senior, whether or not you’ve applied to Ball State yet, you can earn college credit while finishing up your high school degree through our College Transition Program (CTP) or Independent Learning Program.
- Degree-seeking students: This includes high school students, high school graduates, or GED (General Education Development) holders who want to work toward an associate degree or bachelor’s degree, or students who are taking graduate courses with the intention of earning a master’s or doctoral graduate degree.
- International students: The Rinker Center for International Education assists all international students in gaining admission to Ball State, including international students wishing to take distance education and independent learning options.
Nondegree-seeking students
Noncredit Programs
You will not earn a college degree, but in these courses, workshops, seminars, or other learning opportunities, you may earn certification, special licensure, and practical and professional skills—even how to buy and sell on eBay! You belong to this category if you want to:
- Hone your leadership skills
- Update your knowledge base
- Develop an integrated view of business operations
- Learn the skills to serve as an effective consultant or trainer for corporations, government units, and nonprofit organizations
- Learn some basics of the Spanish language
- Master a software application
