The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 is a federal law that protects the privacy of students’ education records. Recent amendments to this act require schools to implement procedures to further protect student educational records. In order to comply, Ball State has created My Education Gateway (MEG) and Parent Education Gateway (PEG) to authorize release of educational information/records to specified individuals.
MEG allows students to have access to their university records and be able to speak to university departments about their records. Students can also grant permission for other individuals to receive information from their educational records. This can be completed at www.bsu.edu/meg.
PEG allows parents to request permission for access to certain university records and to correspond with specified departments on campus. To request this permission, the parent will need to go to www.bsu.edu/peg to set up a passport account.
To correspond via email with the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA), students must use their Ball State University email account. Parents must also list an email address in the PEG system and use that email address to correspond with the OSFA. Emails that are sent from accounts other than these will receive a response informing the sender that the requested information cannot be provided.
